Is an A- higher than an A?

This afternoon i went to prof neil's office to ask him about my philo paper grade, because my other philo frens were going to the dept for other stuff so while waiting i might as well go I asked him whether an A- is lower than A+ but higher than A. He seemed so shocked.LOL. ( must be thinking i didnt had As in my life before).

This is because i got 92 marks and A- but my classmate got 90 and an A..

He explained that it's not that an A is lower than A-but he didnt know how to grade a low A so he explained a lot...but i dont quite get it...then i asked him whether numerical grade is the thing that counts ..then he said yes. ok, that solved the issue. He said i got a higher grade than my classmate. But that wasnt my purpose of asking him the qn. Its not that I want to score higher than my classmate/friend...it seemed like he misunderstood me..haha made me seem like so "grade greedy".

Anyway, i asked him a couple more qns, then i got this "brain block " again...so dissapointed with myself...i seem to be a little "chi dun" when i ask questions about moral philosophy. Dissapointed with myself again.

Nevertheless i will try to strive for better grades.=) Work hard! same for my friends too!! Jiayou!

A side track from this issue... I LOST my home keys today! GOt scolded by my father. SAD.Dont everyone lose their keys once in a while?? can't people be more understanding? Well, i am blaming myself internally for my bad habit for losing things and not bringing handphone to sch, but what's wrong with all these? I dont see a problem( other than causing trouble and hassle for others? This incident further support my view that there a no real moral facts out there. Social construction is the cause of moral facts. ( No mood to explain now, need to worry about replacing my keys and how to get out of the house and return home without keys tomorrow) =(((((

Thats why philosophy gets me so worked up. I thought I decided that moral truths are all socially constructed. Then I read your blog and now I am in a state of unbalance again haha..

I agree that not bringing your handphone around with you is a socially constructed "moral truth". But I am not sure about losing your keys (or losing your handphone hypothetically). My argument is that while you own the physical objects, the access that the keys has (to your home and itmes inside and security of the people within) and for handphone (the personal contacts of your friends and family) cannot be considered entirely yours. Thus losing items of special importance would be "bad". Maybe we can come up with a general rule based on this haha. (I think some laws are based on this, like do no harm to others, was this by miller? I don'k know)

Having sensitive skin might be good and bad. For some people having sensitive hearing might mean certain high pitched sounds being hurtful to their ears but on the other hand, they might have some advantage in appreciating music or so on. Hmmm maybe if there was something weird like a chemical attack in X place (i'm not mentioning any physical place, this seems to be a sensitive topic nowadays), and because of a slight trace of radiation, your skin gets irritated and you leave because of that, you would be spared the effects of any radiation. lolx. Its a gift not a curse..
